Q.  What does the Check Engine light mean?
A. Your vehicle's engine management system monitors hundreds of components that are vital in keeping the amount of emissions your vehicle produces as low as possible.  If the Check Engine light is on it means that one or more of the self tests that the system performs has failed and there is a malfunction.  Double check that your gas cap was not left off or installed incorrectly. This too can cause the Check Engine light to turn on.  Have the vehicle checked as soon as possible by a qualified specialist.

Q. What type of engine oil should I use?
A. We use what the manufacturer recommends. For Gasoline Engines we use Mobil 1 Synthetic Formula M 5W40. For Diesel Engines we use Mobil 1 Synthetic Formula 5W40 ESP.

Q. What type of transmission fluid should I use?
A. Your Mercedes-Benz transmission requires special fluid.  From model year 1987 up to June 21, 2010 transmission production, we use Mercedes-Benz fluid part number: A001 989 68 03 10.  After June 21, 2010 transmission production, we use Mercedes-Benz fluid part number: A001 989 78 03 09.

Q. Are all technicians certified training programs the same?
A. No.  Unfortunately, the term "certified" has been used very loosely in the automotive industry.  If someone claims to be "certified", you should ask what agency they hold their certification with and if it's current.  Our technicians are certified by Mercedes-Benz and go through a rigorous re-certification program each and every year.  In fact, 98% of our technicians have reached the coveted level of Mercedes-Benz Master Certified.

Q. Can technicians from independent repair shops get certified by Mercedes-Benz?
A. No. The Mercedes-Benz technician certification program is only available to factory authorized repair facilities. If someone claims to be "certified", you should ask what agency they hold their certification with and if it's current.  Vehicle technology is changing at a very rapid pace.  The modern vehicle has hundreds of microprocessors and on-board computers that require specialized equipment and training to diagnose and repair.  Always be sure that the person you trust your safety with is up to date.

Q. Is it more expensive to have my car repaired at Schumacher European than at an independent repair shop?
A.  No, not when you compare all the additional benefits you receive from us, as opposed to the potential risks and inconveniences of having your vehicle serviced at an independent repair shop. With all things considered, we're sure you'll find Schumacher European to be the better value.  Click here for a side by side comparison.
